When was the last time you replaced or inspected your eavestroughs? The Pros at CanMac suggest that you check at least twice a year to make sure they are in good condition. Clogs are among the most frequent causes of leaky eavestroughs. If you don't regularly clean out them, your eavestrough may quickly fill up with leaf debris and clutter. The issue is that if the water slides up because of a clog, then this may make it flow through your roof too.
Here are the top four signs that it’s time to replace your home’s eavestroughs:
1. Leaks - Properly working Eavestroughs/Gutters should be completely free of leaks. There are many different types of eavestrough leaks that can develop over time, such as pinhole leaks, leaks from cracks, and leaks at connecting joints or water leaking in behind the eaves. A leaky gutter can cause water damage, and mold problems inside of your home.
2. Overflow - Usually, the issue is caused by a blockage. If your eavestroughs are getting blocked by shingle granules or shingle pieces from an old roof, then it may be time to have your eavestroughs and your entire roof replaced.
3. Pooling water - Water may pool in your eavestroughs if they are clogged, damaged, improperly angled, or sagging. The problem with pooling water is that it can lead to corrosion and leaks. CanMac will be able to get down to the bottom of why the water is pooling and fix it.
4. Loose/damaged fasteners - Hangers, nails, or screws that fasten your eavestrough to your home can get loose over time, which allows water to make contact with the fascia boards along your roof line.
